Rule of thumb is : Any wine you would drink is wine to cook with. Personally, I like Casara brand pinot noir. It’s good, it’s inexpensive.
Look for the little glass bottle 4-packs of wine by Gallo or Sutter Home. Perfect for cooking, resealable to refrigerate ifyou don’t use the entire bottle, and not expensive.
I use burgundy or merlot to cook with.
i usually just use red table wine, nothing too expensive
You want to use something that you could actually drink. Never use anything labeled cooking wine. Sutter Home is an inexpensive label.
It will depend on what you want as a final result, for a big bold taste try a cabernet sauvignon or a merlot. If you are expecting a delicate flavour go with a pinot noir. I personally prefer not to use the cheapest wines since they tend to be cheap because they don’t taste good and that will affect the dish. Also, stay away from sweet wines because the sweetness will intensify during the cooking process.
It’s not the brand but the type that matters. Use a dry red with beef:
e.g. Merlot, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Rubinet or Sauvignon.
