Which Red Wine is healthiest? ( has the highest Resveratrol / tannin/ polyphenol content)
I don’t need to know why red wine is good to us..etc
Please don’t give me the answer like : generally all red wine are beneficial to health/ It depends….etc
I really want to pick some outstanding ones (brands ) with exceptional health- value.
As I know, Pinot noir wine just mean a type of wine created predominantly from Pinot noir grapes. And there are soooooo many brands of Pinot noir wine, can anyone really give me some precise answer?

Health scientists have long been puzzled by the so-called French Paradox — the perplexing fact that the French consume at least as much fat and cholesterol as Americans do, smoke more cigarettes, and yet have far lower rates of coronary heart disease. After a thorough consideration of the two peoples’ lifestyles, researchers have isolated yet another distinction between the French and the Americans. The French drink much more wine than do Americans, typically consuming it at meals.

These facts, combined with numerous studies conducted over the past twenty years, point to the fact that light to moderate consumption of alcohol, especially red wine, reduces the rate of heart disease dramatically. Research shows that men and women who drink a glass of wine a day exhibit a 20 to 50 percent lower risk of heart disease, and recent studies suggest that tempered consumption of alcohol reduces the risk of stroke.

Alcohol increases concentrations of HDL, the ‘good’ cholesterol that lowers the likelihood of heart disease and decreases platelet aggregability: it makes the blood less sticky and less likely to clot, thus decreasing the risk of a heart attack. With its many antioxidant components, including tannins, phenols, resveratrol, and quercitin, in addition to alcohol, red wine appears to be especially protective.

According to this passage, the key to solving the French Paradox lies in understanding which of the following:

(A) The relationship between alcohol and HDL
(B)The relationship between cheese and ‘bad cholesterol’
(C)The relationship between heart disease and stroke
(D) The relationship between alcohol and nicotine
(E)The relationship between environmental and genetic factors

On todays episode Dr. Oz, they were talking about Anti-aging Secrets. One of the things they were talking about was Resveratrol. Dr. Oz says that he takes 500mg of Resveratrol and then showed a green capsule. Does anyone know the name of this pill? Thank You

I want to know which tea would have the most antioxidant in it.
One is Seven-Berry Antioxidant tea (specifically Yogi tea) which has acai berry, goji berry, Coffee berry, elderberry, boysenberry, raspberry, blueberry or a very high quality Green tea with Grapeseed extract (which is rich in procyanidins and resveratrol) and amla fruit.
Only the wise people answer.

Cancer cells do not use oxygen to make energy.

They ferment sugar to make energy.

A chemical in the cell allows this to take place.

If you block this process the cell will run out of energy and self destruct.

Resveratrol also induces cancer cells to eat themselves.

It saved my life.

Resveratrol attacks cancer cells in many ways.

Some polyphenols like those of dark chocolate, while quite affordable, are not healthy for megadosing at least from usual sources. That is due to the fat content of dark chocolate.

Others such as resveratrol are expensive in high doses. A more moderate but high quality dose is quite affordable.

But when consuming some of these polyphenols the smaller dose means they’re broken more rapidly by the liver and remain less time in the blood causing a loss of some of their benefits. A high dose keeps the liver busy and allows them to remain in the blood at higher concentrations and for longer.

Now can other polyphenols be used to protect them and allow them to remain longer in the blood stream? That is green tea, vegetables, berries, etc which can cheaply and easily be consumed in megadoses without problem, thus providing megadoses of a wide variety of polyphenols. Could such keep the liver’s breakdown enzymes busy enough to prolong the time specific polyphenols remain in the blood?
I seem to recall having heard of drug interactions involving the liver, and breakdown being affected by the presence of another drug, thus prolonging the time in the blood of a particular drug.
I’m trying this for the resveratrol CR-like effects.

In-vitro human cells have shown it can affect human cells. In vivo animal research has shown stupendous results.

But some of the animal tests have used doses that would be equivalent to several grams in human equivalence calculations. Further the bio- availability from what I heard is still in question, and the human liver seems to process it too soon(some say this doesn’t affect its benefits much.)

I know that large doses of resveratrol mean the liver takes longer in breaking it down. If some of the other polyphenols are broken down by the same enzymes, this will keep those enzymes busy processing said polyphenols, and will extend the time resveratrol remains in the blood at moderate doses.

The big problem is are there other polyphenols that are processed by the same enzymes, and thus would compete with resveratrol and slow down its breakdown?

i know it can help, just like resveratrol can knock out many cancers. The japanese use the root of the knotweed plant and here in the states they use the muscadine grape, at the muscadine wineries. You might google "Preclinical and clinical trials of resveratrol on cancer" and pull up the 58 page report. I know the stuff works as a friend was given 3 months to live and it’ s been over three years now and ok. The only draw back is the resveratrol puts more 02 in the system and acts like Viagra on men.

I understand the drawbacks to pot use and if legalized it could be more accessable to kids. But still wondering if they grow their own or the state govenment grows it.

Can diabetes people will get benefits by using the resveratrol is it control the blood sugar.. Is it suggestible by doctors?

Tell me what all the things will be cure or prevented by using resveratrol. And also tell me is that resveratrol supplement is use to prevent the cancer , blood sugar , inflammatory …

Anyone know where I can buy this online and get it shipped to the USA? With Pay-pal or credit card?
Its a new form of chlorella that combines the benefits of spirulina and regular chlorella.
I cannot seem to find a seller to the USA except for Shokos and they are taking a long time to contact me.
I want it to go along with my 98% Trans Resveratrol supplement. Was going to get the acetylated or triacetylated trans resveratrol but they did not have pure formulas.
HG. thanks for your contribution.
I am in great shape. About 10% bodyfat to be exact.
I want to find the cryptomonadales and its cgf for general health.
Thanks ddb.
Chlorella basically is a whole food that helps remove toxins and gives the body a synergistic and natural set of vitamins and minerals.
And the Cryptomonadales is supposed to be a better cultivated form. Made in Taiwan by a doctor.
Of course this being the USA the best herbs arehard to find while the prescription drugs are plentiful. Lolz.

I am 26 yrs old, 6 foot 3 inches, and about 250 lbs. Since the beginning of the year I have been lifting weights and running nearly 4 times a week and have since lost 20 lbs or so. I quit smoking 12 days ago and have another 20-30 days before I have to test for the job opportunity of a life time. I am currently taking a 7 day cleansing program from the health store and taking butt loads of vits daily(niacin, cranberry, B-complex, C, E, Resveratrol, Protein shakes, Glucosamine Condroitin and MSN). I also drink a minimum of a gallon of H2O daily. I have smoked the best chronic around several times daily for years though. I am EXTREMELY WORRIED that I could still fail due to the amount I’ve smoked in the past and that I have a high percentage of body fat (where the THC hides) THANKS FOR ANY INPUT

My husband takes a prescription cholesterol medication and a bunch of supplements, like fish oil, saw palmetto, grapeseed/resveratrol, spirulina, a multi-vitamin, theanine. And he drink a glass of red wine a day and sometimes 3 beers with that occasionally. Is this harmful?

can you survive any stage 4 cancer ?

I do not know how I am alive.

Doctor said I had 2 mo,s to live.

I guess the resveratrol must have saved me.

Has just about driven me insane.

I was skin and bones.

In 30 days the bulge in my stomac went away and

I started gaining weight .

I cried like a baby.

I had taken 2 chemo treatments for lymphoma

and t it had done nothing to the mass in

my stomac .

Doctor said he was sure the mass was stage 4

stomac cancer because of this.

He said I had 2 cancers .

That is when I sarted taking resveratrol .

I drink wine purely for the health benefit and because it helps me sleep. Because of this, I drink very moderately and it takes me a week or two to finish a bottle. Towards the end of the bottle, the taste becomes very bad tasting like vinegar. However, since it all tastes quite nasty to me, it doesn’t bother me too much.

Now, I understand that flavonoids and trans-resveratrol are among a few of many compounds in wine that may contribute to health benefit. I also know that the spoiled taste is a result of an increase in acetobacter, a bacteria that is inherent in the wine and will grow rapidly after the wine is exposed to air. The acetobacter increases the concentration of acetic acid, which is what I’m tasting.

My question is, does the increased presence of acetobacter, or the acetic acid make the wine unhealthy, or perhaps even affect the other compounds (i.e. trans-resveratrol is highly sensitive to oxygen) to the point where drinking spoiled wine becomes unhealthy OR are the health benefits exactly the same but the wine simply tastes worse?
But… fruit juice doesn’t have trans-resveratrol which is one of the main compounds that prevents aging and disease, and fruit juice doesn’t help me sleep. Due to the fermentation process, only wine has a significant source of trans-resveratrol. Also, just as an fyi, acetobacter is in ALL WINE, and acetic acid is what gives vinegar its taste. I’m just asking if this destroys the other compounds that makes wine healthy.

The big question about Resveratrol pills is whether they work. For that matter, what kind of "work" do they do? The high-quality Resveratrol supplements are expensive. Before I pay that much money I need to have scientific evidence that the benefits are worth the cost.

Okay, Resveratrol contains anti-oxidants. So what? It’s got to offer more than that because so do all fruits and vegetables, which are much less expensive. I’m not interested in "testimonials" on websites that sell the product. I’m not interested in the unsupported opinions of Oprah and Dr. Oz. I want to see results of properly conducted, unbiased studies on humans (not mice).

So my question is: Can anyone point me to such studies? For all the buzz about Resveratrol I can’t seem to find any! Are studies underway but not completed yet?
This is my first time on Yahoo Answers and I’m surprised at the quick responses!

Oldtimer, I glanced at some of the studies you pointed to. It seems that most of the human studies deal with specific diseases, such as heart disease and diabetes. That’s fine as far as it goes. Maybe I should clarify my question as: What can an average, healthy human adult expect to get from taking a commercially available (OTC) form of Resveratrol? Are there any studies that have looked at this?

I’ve read online about resveratrol and im thinking about getting it, but does anyone know what KIND of resveratrol works best? I’ve heard of resveratrol ultra but I want to know what KIND actually works the best.

Also, is it okay to combine resveratrol with other resveratrol products or some other kind of anti-aging stuff for maximun effects?

Has anyone tried this? The resveratrol from the grape extract is supposed to enhance the anti-obesity effects of genistein from soy extracts. Does it work?

Tell me how much cost of the resveratrol.. and also mention the benefits and side effects of having the resveratrol .. mention the list of the products which containing the resveratrol..

Thanks for answering.

1) Role of the nutrient in the body
2) Food Sources
3) Does Cooking/Freezing effect the quality of the nutrient
4) Range of amounts
5) What happens if it is deficient in the body
6) What disease states, if any could benefit from Resveratrol
7) Would someone want this nutrient

THANKS!!!

I am a 21 year old boy (I look 6-7 years younger), I am 5′7", 105 lbs. I drink Australian Red Wine and other Red Wines (I rarely ever drink anything else like beer or liquor, etc., ONLY red wine), the other drinks I know age you, but Red Wine contains an antioxidant called Resveratrol. I drink red wine about 3 times a week, usually when my mom makes spaghetti or pasta or vegetables, etc. for dinner. I am a vegetarian. I eat light and only healthy foods. I am aware that it [Red Wine] has the resveratrol that has anti-aging properties, and can slow down cellular aging. Is this, the Red Wine, the only exception in alcohol (wine) that is OK to drink one glass a few times a week to avoid aging? Is this the only exception in alcohol that WILL NOT progress aging as opposed to other alcohol drinks like beer, whiskey, vodka, etc.? Is this a good idea to incorporate 1 glass of Red Wine with my dinner 3 times a week or so?

Also, so when I am 80, will I look much younger and still have my fountain of youth?

I am 38 and have had two children. I have had normal periods my whole life. (28 days apart) About two years ago I experimented and took some resveratrol. (red wine extract)

When I had taken it for a day and a half I started my period early. Since it was early so I thought it was the resveratrol. (That’s the only thing that changed.) When I read about it, I found out that it is also used to regulate the menstrual cycle. (Well it un-regulated mine! And I discontinued taking it.)

It took about 3-6 months for my period to be regular again. After that point my periods have shortened to about 24 days. But I am concerned because as of today the last two periods have been 21 days apart.

Did I do something to my body by taking the resveratrol? (That’s when this all started.) Or is this a natural thing for my body to go through? Please advise.

I need to know so I can live FOREVER!!! AND EVER!!!

btw i heard taking resveratrol(which is found in red wine) will make you live longer than your grandma.

I’ve read online about resveratrol and im thinking about getting it, but does anyone know what KIND of resveratrol works best? I’ve heard of resveratrol ultra but I want to know what KIND actually works the best.

Pinot Noir from Oregon is the best source of resveratrol, which has been proven to extend the life span of rats by 50%. (I hope it works as well for Rays as for rats.)

I sip the wine, holding each sip in my mouth until it dissolves. Resveratrol can be absorbed through the mouth (through the cheeks and under the tongue), but if you just gulp it down, it gets destroyed by stomach acid.

More than half a glass of wine a day would do more harm than good. Excess alcohol destroys the liver. The human liver, when it’s healthy and well-nourished, is the greatest pharmaceutical factory in the world. It makes all kinds of biochemicals that improve health.

"Most of the resveratrol in imbibed red wine does not reach the circulation." Further, "Interestingly, absorption via the mucous membranes in the mouth can result in up to around 100 times the blood levels, if done slowly rather than simply gulping it down."

It is a question. Your "answer" is not an answer. Legitimate Answerers can respond with other ideas on the best sources for reserveratrol, or with arguments against reservertrol.

This is not an advertisement. I’m not selling anything. I’m sharing information about improving health through alternate medicine. My motivation is that healthier people will mean lower Medicare taxes for me when I’m 106 and still working as a biochemist. (I plan to go back to college to study biochemistry when I retire at age 62 in 2012.)
