I want to start taking Red wine for health benefits.I am nonalcoholic and don;t know how wines are taken.I have seen in parties, people taking wine before meals but that is the different purpose,I believe.

I’m sure many of you know about the health benefits in red wine that aren’t found in any other alcoholic drinks.

SO if I drink red wine and get drunk it’s essentially a win-win situation right?

Can someone tell me what the health benefits of drinking Red Wine?
Just a curious question. :)

I wanted to start drinking red wine because I have heard of health benefits. I also want to become more acquainted with red wines. I usually drink white wine. What is a good starter red wine that is not too dry or too sweet?

I heard that red wine is healthier than white wine, in terms of calories, antioxidants etc. Is this true, and does it depend on the grape variety or the age of the wine?
Edit: Thanks for the answers so far, some of which have pointed out the benefits of one glass of red wine. I’m a big fan of vino rosso, and drink roughly a bottle a day… am I still getting any health benefits, notwithstanding the effects of the alcohol?

I could use the advice of a medical expert about a vitamin regiment I am considering.

1.1000mg Glucosamine/800mg Chronditin: Joint Health
2.500mg Acetyl-L-Carnite: Heart Health & Anti-Oxidant Effect
3.1000mg HMB: Strength
4.250mg Biotivia Resveratrol: Energy & Other Health Benefits
5.100mg Coenzyme- Q10: Antioxidant
6.500mg Quercitin: Energy & Allergies
7.1500mg D-Ribose: Energy

Is this vitamin regiment reasonable for someone in their 20’s, in excellent physical health, and otherwise very healthy? For a person who exercises 6 days per week and eats a nutritious diet (high fiber, high vegetable, lean protein, lot of water)

Do any of the supplements contradict one another? Also, do you have any recommendations on any vitamins that should be added or removed? If so, what scientific evidence do you have to support your claim?

Thanks!

And are there other health benefits to drinking a single glass of red wine daily? I keep reading studies that suggest there are.
I think the key to this is ONE glass a day… I would think that becoming a heavy drinker would negate any good effects…

I know that there are health benefits to drinking red wine in moderation, such as it contains anti-oxidants and can help lower blood pressure, but can you get any vitamins from drinking red wine, or does the process of it being made into alcohols strip it of it’s nutrients?

I have thought about getting some red wine for it’s health benefits. I thought I would have a glass in the evening. I don’t drink anything (beer, wine coolers, etc) so I have no idea which red wine would be "soft" enough for me. I have had sips of wine at like Olive Garden and those were very strong. I thought they actually tasted like stinky feet! Anyway, I just want a daily red wine that isn’t too strong. Any suggestions?

Lots of recent reports would have it that regularly drinking red wine spiffs up your health, because of the "resveratrol" in them. After being a teetotaller for many years, I took up slurping red wines (primarily the fairly decent plonks Carlo Rossi Paisano and Chianti). I’ve been doing up large glasses of wine four times a week, each about 8 ounces. This is apparently enough for health benefits, plus people have been shown in studies to think better after moderate amounts of alcohol (with emphasis on "moderate", which obviously precludes lurching bouts of sheer drunkenness).

But one does worry about little alcohol soldiers marching about and slaughtering brain cells if one should, say, occasionally laugh gleefully and down not one, but two in a row of those extra-sized McGlasses of plonk. Is there any basis for worrying like an old lady about it?

What health benefits have you noticed?

Looking for health benefits of a non-American diet. (i.e. The French Paradox) and others such as Asian/Japanese. I also need web site addresses to back up, if you have them.

I have long wondered about this. I know that Red Wine was historically thought to be good for you – something to do with a chemical found only in Red Wine.

Then researchers in the 1990s said it really didn’t matter and that one to two standard drinks (but no more) each day provided certain health benefits.

So is there anything special about Red Wine?

I have heard that red wine offers some health benefits. I enjoy an occasional drink during the evening and was wondering if red wine is a better than white wine or other alcoholic drinks. Thanks!

Just curious, does vinigerizing red wine make it lose it’s health benefits?

My husband and I would like to start drinking a glass of red wine each day for the health benefits that red wine is supposed to provide. However, we haven’t like the taste of any of the red wines we have tried. We aren’t really alcohol drinkers, but can stand the taste of white wine. What would be a good red wine for us to drink that will taste good and still give us the health benefits?
Thanks. What are some examples of sweet red wine varieties?
