being new to drinking and never tried alcohol, wanting to try red wine .

What is the advisor for a first timer trying a red wine

Everyone want me to go to happy hour and tells me that I can have a glass of red wine. I don’t want to though, is that true?
I’m not saying I want to drink any alcohol. I’m just wondering where they got this idea from.

Should people with coronary heart disease avoid all alcohol? Is red wine is an exception? What would be your advice to some one who has not been taking alcohol all these years? (… except a few glasses of beer / vodka over the years.)

How long does Alcohol (red wine) stay in system?
Today I drank a little bit of red wine (Not even a cup) just to try it around 1:30pm. I was wondering how long this will show up in my urine and blood because there might be a random drug test soon.

I want to make a Greek salad and it calls for red wine, I can’t use alcohol in my foods so I was wondering what I can use as a substitute
yeah red wine vinegar is what I meant!

I heard that red wine is healthier than white wine, in terms of calories, antioxidants etc. Is this true, and does it depend on the grape variety or the age of the wine?
Edit: Thanks for the answers so far, some of which have pointed out the benefits of one glass of red wine. I’m a big fan of vino rosso, and drink roughly a bottle a day… am I still getting any health benefits, notwithstanding the effects of the alcohol?

Hi, I’ve always loved the muscadine (scuppernong) juice that is bottled by my hometown winery. Since my family’s religious beliefs will make it unwise to have alcohol at my wedding reception, I thought having a bottle of chilled muscadine juice on each table would be perfect. Problem is, I have no idea what sort of glasses to set out for the juice. My fiance seems to think champagne glasses would work, seeing that the juice is "replacing" champagne. Can anyone tell me what is considered proper?
Btw it is white muscadine juice.
Chris B – Post Familie is the brand! Their winery is in my hometown of Altus, Arkansas!!! When I lived there, I could walk to their company store and buy the juice…..the Posts are really great people also. It’s still a family-run business. Thanks for the reply!

I know a glass of red wine is good for heart. But it has some alcohol in it. Is there anything available like a glass of red wine a day – but not wine – which will still have all the goodness of red wine? Sorry beer drinkers…

I have been strictly going to the gym and eating very healthy to gain about 15 pounds of muscle (I want to gain weight). I know that drinking a bit of red wine every night is good for health, especially my heart. But how does it affect my work out and muscles? I assume alcohol is bad for someone who wants to gain muscle/mass?

I’m looking for a red wine that is sweet and doesn’t have a strong alcohol taste, any suggestions.

Does anybody else get drunk as quick as i do on red wine??? Roughly bout four glass and i’m well on my way to pisssed… Come on people i cant be the only one. With other alcohol i’m fine, but red wine just seems to hit me HARD!

I’m not trying to avoid alcohol…the problem is that it’s Sunday in the South and an open liquor store doesn’t exist. Can I use red cooking wine…is it pretty much the same thing? Or is there another alternative?
I guess I should have mentioned the other ingredients as well…it already calls for minced garlic, soy sauce, dry onion soup mix, and black pepper. My apologies

Do you outright forbid your teen to have any alcohol due to the legality of it in the area where you live, and if so, would you then be fine with them drinking if they were traveling abroad in areas where the drinking age was lower? I’ve been to places like the Czech Republic where it was perfectly acceptable for a 13-year-old to have a small glass of wine with dinner. If the law isn’t your primary concern, what is? Would you allow your teen to have a glass of antioxidant and resveratrol rich red wine with a meal, provided that she won’t be driving anywhere that night? Do you think it’s acceptable for a 17-year-old who knows how to drink responsibly (never on an empty stomach; with plenty of water; only in moderation; and never before driving) to have one glass of wine now and then?

Resveratrol is a high potency, all-natural supplement that provides high levels of one of the most powerful naturally occurring anti-oxidants. It is commonly found in Red Wine and is well-known as a principal part of the healthy Mediterranean diet. ResV naturally concentrates the goodness of wine’s most beneficial molecule without having to consume a single drop of alcohol

They say that a glass of red wine can help with heart health, thanks to the tannins, antioxidants, resveratrol, flavonoids, and so on. But, of course, the alcohol is pretty much a poison that your liver has to filter out, and it *is* empty calories for a beverage.

But I’m curious- if you incorporate it into cooking (like sauces, as braising liquids, in stews, etc.), do the good effects still remain? The alcohol all cooks away, but does the cooking process destroy or lessen the good aspects?

Just wondering.

Lots of recent reports would have it that regularly drinking red wine spiffs up your health, because of the "resveratrol" in them. After being a teetotaller for many years, I took up slurping red wines (primarily the fairly decent plonks Carlo Rossi Paisano and Chianti). I’ve been doing up large glasses of wine four times a week, each about 8 ounces. This is apparently enough for health benefits, plus people have been shown in studies to think better after moderate amounts of alcohol (with emphasis on "moderate", which obviously precludes lurching bouts of sheer drunkenness).

But one does worry about little alcohol soldiers marching about and slaughtering brain cells if one should, say, occasionally laugh gleefully and down not one, but two in a row of those extra-sized McGlasses of plonk. Is there any basis for worrying like an old lady about it?

Empirically I am coming to the conclusion that the longer a red wine takes to open up after uncorking, the better will evolve by keeping it in the cellar. Experts talk about structure (alcohol/tannin/acid balance) but this seems quite subjective. And, of course some just go with the wine’s reputation to age well, but this can vary from vintage to vintage. Do you have other ways of assesing a wine’s potential to age?

how alcohol can be danger n be useful for human ? please explain

My husband and I would like to start drinking a glass of red wine each day for the health benefits that red wine is supposed to provide. However, we haven’t like the taste of any of the red wines we have tried. We aren’t really alcohol drinkers, but can stand the taste of white wine. What would be a good red wine for us to drink that will taste good and still give us the health benefits?
Thanks. What are some examples of sweet red wine varieties?
